Cellular Apoptosis Susceptibility (CAS) contains 971 amino acids with 59% overall sequence homology as compared to yeast chromosome segregation homolog, CSE1. CAS is highly expressed in testis and fetal liver. CAS expression in human fibroblasts increases as cells are induced to proliferate and decreases in growth arrested cells. CAS functions as an export receptor for importin alpha. Mediates importin alpha reexport from the nucleus to the cytoplasm after import substrates have been released into the nucleoplasm.
